The aim of our paper is to assess the impact of guest-cards on the sales performance of medicinal and thermal tourism services, and to this end we examine selected tourist regions in Hungary and Austria.

The authors attempt to show Austrian ’best practice’ in introducting and using such cards, in contrast to Hungary, where there is curently (in the outstanding holiday region of Lake Balaton) only one isolated attempt to emulate this. We strongly recommend expanding the use of this type of discount card as a means to reduce spatial differences and to increase the potential of tourism in the destinations involved.
